I received Gen2 like other reviews have stated.
The listing shows both images and written description of it being the original formula and that is what I want but unfortunately I received the reformulated Gen2 some Google searches will inform of the difference between the two.

Preventative Maintenance
Motul’s X-cess oil (in this case 5w40) is the go-to oil for motors requiring additional cylinder protection due to either racing requirements or mechanical issues. Motul Excess 5/40 is especially helpful in minimizing bore-scoring in the 987 Porsches as well as other German motorcars. Highly advised in this regard.

Awesome value
Currently no prime.option for delivery, but oil came promptly and neatly packaged. Couldn’t beat the price and planning ahead, it came right when I needed it. First time using motul, didn’t realize it has its own makeshift spout for pouring which was nice.

The oil I received was not Motul 8100 5W40 X-Cess, but Motul 5W-30 X-Cess gen 2. I bought this specifically because it wasnt gen 2.

Cool
22 Ram Laramie Crew Cab EcoDiesel. I checked the Motul 8100 5W40 X-Cess gen-2 specs and they align with factory specs ( CHRYSLER MS 12991 ). Not written ono the container but in there web site. A friend and Diesel Mechanic said to me that this oil better then the Shell Rotella T6 and the Mopar oil. I’ll do a follow up in a few months when I get some more miles and let you know what I think and see.

A40 rated oil suitable for both Porsche and VW
Product is good, and price for two 5L bottles was good, making this nearly as affordable as less able motor oils.What really sucked in the last delivery was the packaging: these heavy items were in a huge cardboard box with no packing and the oil filter, all flying around wreaking havok during transport. Amazingly, no overt damage to the products occurred. Which is quite unexpected, considering.

Is it worth the risk?
I equate engine oil with a blood transfusion….you want the good stuff, or the cheap stuff? Motul is a premier motor oil, what the people with engines that have very stringent oil requirements use. Great oil is still cheaper than a mechanic or engine.
