How can I tell if I need a new starter?
If the engine cranks slowly or not at all, check the starting system. The starter could have failed, or excessive resistance in the wires and their connections can prevent the proper voltage from reaching the starter. Check for loose or dirty cable connections or for battery cables with wires that are too small in diameter. If everything else checks, measure the starter draw and amperage, if incorrect, replace the starter.

Do NOT waste your money
application : 2006 BMW 330 xi e 90 , The original Bosh starter is date coded so I know it is the OEM original Starter that I pulled ,it was manufactured in Hungry it lasted 14 years 160 kThis Bosh starter is made in Taiwan , So i do not expect it to last as long as the OEM Bosh starter , So if you really want quality my opinion is you will not find it with this Bosh StaterI would have saved 1/2 the money I spent on this Taiwan Starter By just buying the other cheep brand starters listed here with good reviews .

Fixed my no-start issue on a 2010 BMW 328i. If buying for a BMW, don’t forget to pick up a new set of one-time use aluminum bolts, and a new set of intake manifold gaskets.

After battery replacement, this is next.
OEM manufacturer, and its not rebuilt/re-manufactured. So far so good, car has been starting great for five months with no issues. If your BMW N52 cranks slow and you did replace vehicle starting battery with a quality unit, not a auto store brand or Wally world, than this is it. Word to the wise, it is the most time consuming starter I have ever replaced, and I used to employ myself by wrenching on VW’s at a dealership. Also please replace (one time use) starter bolts (2) also found on Amazon and (6) intake manifold gaskets. It’s just common sense to me since this is normal technician practice.

Do not risk buying this product. My BMW mechanic installed this starter. My car worked for one day and then did not start again. After calling a tow truck, it then started. I drove it to my mechanic. It died and wouldnt start again. My mechanic tested the wires going to the starter. They were live. I ended up paying $600 for the install of this horrible starter, and then another $600 for the mechanic’s starter. Not worth the risk.

Worked perfectly for my 2010 bmw 328i w/ dead starter — only trouble was finding right E14-type wrench/spanner for the long torx bolt that is impossible to remove without it given the limited space against the firewall… but it’s been over a year now & car starts fine!

Starts fast and consistently
Original starter finally failed after some gradually increasing signs. Old starter always took longer than this one does, even three years back when I bought my x3.New starter came in box with paper filling to prevent damage. No other items. Aluminum screws needed for my install purchased separately.

It works
Bought this starter being proactive because my car wouldn’t start sometimes right away and then one day at work wouldn’t start at all. I didn’t have time to work on it myself so I had my car towed to my favorite mechanic and from all the testing he figure it was leading to the starter, but had to get to the starter to be sure. Come to find out it was only a ground wire, but since he was already there and I’m still paying for the labor I had him install the new Starter even though my old one is still good. The new starter works well so far. Cars starts up alot faster. Not sure if it’s because of the new starter or because the ground wire was fixed. Either way this starter arrived 3 days early than noted.

Car starts! Didn’t before…
A dog to install but not the fault of the starter. BMW engineers did not concern themselves with the convenience of future mechanics when the placed the starter under the intake manifold and inaccessible from the bottom. What would be a 20 minute job on a Chevy was an all-day ordeal on this BMW. But I love the car. It’s worth the work.

Save yourself time, get this
Went with a cheaper brand starter on BMW 328i, just to find out it was crap. Had to do the job twice. Very clear difference in quality. Don’t waste your time with the cheaper one. The solenoid on the cheaper one was weak and I could pull the starting gear out by hand. Bosch had a very solid feel and is OEM. Installed and car started without issues.
