Gifted to a friend
I got this as a birthday present for a friend of mine who lives out of state. He says it was very easy to install and works flawlessly. A hit for his birthday!

Great product! Easy install, works beautifully for wireless Apple play.
Installed this MMI in my wife’s 2013 BMW X3 about 4 months and we’re very happy with it. The unit works great, especially considering it was less than half of what a BimmerTech model costs! I would absolutely recommend this for anyone who struggles with the horrible Bluetooth connectivity and lack of integration with the OEM BMW connected drive! Its completely changed our driving experience for the better.INSTALL: Very easy and took less than an hour start to finish. YouTube is great for dash disassembly, and then you just need to follow the wiring diagram in the instructions (don’t forget to transfer the fiber optic cable!!!). PRO TIP (from another reviewer): put the MMI unit behind the dash screen and feed the wiring harness down. The original head unit is already a tight fit with the additional wiring, but there’s a ton of space behind the screen for the MMI to fit.FUNCTIONALITY: I use this primarily for Wireless Apple CarPlay and it works great. The sound quality is good for music and calls, and I still have all of my OEM features (HUD, backup camera, steering wheel and center console controls). Very rarely it will be a little slow to boot up (I also have multiple phones connected which may influence this?) but 97% of the time it’s great.NOTE: I originally rated this 3/5 stars because I lost my HUD, trip info, clock, etc. Customer service was great, and worked with me for weeks to try and sort out the problem with various software updates. As it turns out, it was my own fault as I had forgotten to transfer the fiber optic cable! In the instructions this was a pair of bright green cables, but on my modelIt was covered in a plastic black sheath. Once I figured that out all of the OEM functions worked perfectly again. Even though this was my own mistake, I was very happy with the level of customer service (quick replies, always friendly).

So thankful for this part!
The media could not be loaded.
Wow I’m just so impressed with everything this carplay decoder offers. It was the 3 hours it took me to install it. Now knowing how to install it, I could probably do it in half that time. But I took my time and followed along with a YouTube video that is 17 minutes long. The YouTube video I used was more specific to my car because I have the m sport package and my head unit does not have space for the decoder. So if you have the same setup, you will have to take the glove box out to install it in the cavity next to the glove box. The QR code in the instructions takes you to a video that shows you how to install it if you have a standard 328f30 with no options. If you have an f30 that is heavily optioned with the 10-in screen, then you will need copy and paste this text “how to install a carplay decoder in a bmw 328i” into YouTube. There is an instructional video that is 17 minutes and 31 seconds created by GTA car kits. I also went ahead and changed out my cabin car filter while I had the glove box off and I recommend you do the same. After getting it installed I could not get the carplay to mirror my phone. But my wife noticed in the instruction book that you need a Samsung Note 9 or higher for that feature to work. I currently own a Samsung Note 8 but just upgraded to a new Android 10 phone so that I could get the full benefits of this decoder. I just love the way the ways navigation app looks on my screen when I’m driving and it responds to my Google requests perfectly. In the YouTube video there’s a step that shows you how to install the microphone. I didn’t see a microphone in this kit but my microphone picks up everything that I’m saying perfectly. Also this kid includes a front camera cable setup which I did not install because I don’t have a front camera. I have seen those on your cars and you could see around your entire car with that. I mostly got this decoder so that I could take my 10-in screen to the next level which this did. If you’re fairly handy, you can do this yourself after watching the video. It doesn’t require very many tools and just take some patience. You would probably save a couple of hundred dollars in installation if you do it yourself. There was one step I had a difficult time with and that was popping out the power to the outside head unit. So I decided to tape it to the dash and keep it out of the way. Well I used duct tape to do this. That was a bad move because when I peel the tape off it peeled off some of the outer covering on the fan button. But it turns out that Amazon sells these replacement buttons for bmws. I ordered one this morning for 14.99. so that problem is solved. If you run into the same problem I recommend using painters tape and staying on the edges of this head unit and do not tape across any of the buttons. That will save you $14.99. I also wound up installing the Wi-Fi to the back of the head unit. I was able to get the head unit down even with the cable running behind it. Also not in the instructional video was the auxiliary cable installation. As you can see in my video I ran this through the armrest where the auxiliary port is and hit it underneath the cover. And the instruction book it says that this is required for my model 328 f30. I can’t wait to get my newer model phone to be able to take advantage some more of the features like being able to cast a movie to the screen. I know that’s illegal but I still want to do it. Also having the date and time up on my screen is pretty cool. My backup camera is not affected at all when I put it in reverse. Very easy to navigate back into the standard BMW menu as well. I feel like I got a brand new car because of this decoder. I would give this decoder 10 Stars if I could and I’m so glad that I took a chance on this. 3 hours of my Memorial Day well spent. I highly recommend this decoder and hope my review helps somebody.

Works perfectly in my 2014 320ix
I’ve had this in my car for almost 2 months now, and has worked great, no issues whatsoever. My car is a 2014 BMW 320ix with navigation, so your mileage may vary depending on your model BMW and headunit. The device I received works with the OEM microphone, and there was no extra cable required to run to the AUX port.I couldn’t be happier with my purchase, it has breathed new life into my BMW since the 3G network was shutdown.

Best upgrade/retrofit I ever had done to my 2013 BMW 535i
Update after 8 months of useThe only concern that I have is: When I start plying music and then turn the car off the music stops as it should but when I come back and iPhone connects again it doesn’t start the music from where it left off, Is this a settings issue can it be fixed otherwise I have no issuesI have to admit that I was initially skeptical and wasn’t sure if it will work as described. But after using it for 2 weeks I am addicted to, it never failed to connect or drop connection. I think the key is to disconnect your phone from bmw factory blue tooth. The one thing I like to know how to do is to connect a DVR camera and make it recorder while driving.I am coming back again with an update. I have been using it for more them amount and so far it has performed flawlessly. I will recommend it to any one owning BMW with NBT system.I think the biggest issue I have seen being reported is blue tooth connection. when I installed mine I disconnected from BMW bluetooth and removed bmw bluetooth connection from my phone so I never connect to BMW bluetooth it automatically connects to CarPlay and works. After using it for almost 2 months I must have missed up the settings and the caller was getting echoes of their conversation after contacting support within 48 hours after two attempts on changing the settings problem was resolvedThanks for great customer service

Constantly drops bluetooth connection, crashes, then resets.
For a 2015 BMW 435i. Install was time consuming as mine is fully loaded and I had to remove the glove box to fit it to the left of the glove box and right of the OEM headunit. I did not have to use the AUX cable at all. When it works, it works great. Yet, bluetooth crashes often. For a 50 mile trip, it will will crash at least 5 times. This requires me to turn off BT on my phone while driving, turn it back on, and the unit picks it up again after it has automatically reset. Very frustrating.EDIT: After several days the company responded to my email with a new firmware update. No improvement. Still crashes.

Affordable option… works well. Initially couldn’t get the volume to work… unplugged everything and hooked it back up and it worked… make sure to check all your connections. Very pleased with this purchase!

Easy set up
Pretty easy install. I watched a few you tube videos before it arrived and I had it buttoned up in about an hour. Works well so far I will update after a few months of testing. One last thing to mention is that if you plan on coding your car with BimmerCode or protool do it before you install this mmi. Once installed it will block your ECUs from being read by the obd2 program

works well
Installed in a 2016 BMW x3. I found the best place to mount it was behind the screen. All factory steering wheel buttons work as well as the OEM backup camera. Pleased with the unit.
